"Mommy, Mommy, Mommyyyyyyy..."

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
There's just something about that name!

The other day, my little guy needed to go upstairs to get something out of his room.  However, he and I were the only ones home.  For some reason, he still gets a little scared to be upstairs or downstairs alone.  I guess the house feels pretty big to a four year old.
Well, at the time, I was busy preparing dinner and was not at a place that I could stop.  I encouraged him to go up on his own.  He didn't want to, but he wanted a certain toy - so he went.

I went back to preparing dinner when I heard him saying (kind of singing), "Mommy, Mommy..." over and over.
When I realized that he was calling me, I got startled and with my hands wet, full of butter and garlic, I hurried to the foot of the stairs.  I yelled up the stairs and asked him if he was okay.
He came down quickly and said that he was fine.  I asked him why he was calling me and he simply replied, "I was saying your name so I wouldn't be scared."

Wow.  All at once I was convicted and my heart was touched.  My little guy found safety, security and comfort just by saying my name!

My friend, that is how I feel about the name of Jesus!  In that one name, there is safety.  There is hope and grace.

Have you ever fallen to your knees in need of prayer - afraid, confused or scared?  Sometimes, all I can do is utter His name and in those five letters - I am safe...I am home.

He wraps His arms around me and I am secure.

Romans 10:13 says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

I am also reminded of the story in Matthew 14 when Jesus walks on the water.  Peter sees Him and by faith also walks out on the water.  When Peter noticed the wind, he became afraid and started to sink.  He simply cried out, "Lord, save me!" and immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and saved him.  Yes, I know that He admonishes Peter for his faith being small, but I can't help but notice that just at the mention of His name - He reached out and the Bible says IMMEDIATELY saved him.

Sometimes all you can do is call out His name.  Do it in faith. He will save you.

Kings and Kingdoms shall all pass away,
but there's something about that name.

  4. Funny that I should read this now. Last night I read a facebook status of a friend who just a couple years ago came to Christ.. and yet now something is making him scoff at prayer and disown God. When I read it I was so disheartened and all I could do was cry out to God and it was one of those times when I couldn't even formulate words. All that came out was Jesus, over and over and over.. seems so simple but indeed so powerful. My tears were dry within seconds and the peace was overwhelming. Praise God and thank you for putting this post into words because you said it so much better than I could have formulated.
