Today, I am grateful for...

so many things!!  I actually need to catch up a few gratitude posts because I was away from any internet connections and didn't get them posted.  So, I will catch you all up real quick.

4 - I am super thankful for some dear friends that blessed us by  inviting us to a Couples Retreat weekend in -Newport Beach.  We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the teaching, the worship, the fellowship, the laughter (great comedian on Saturday night) and the time we got to spend together.  Thank you Lord for putting them in our path!
So thankful for Dennis and Gloria.  What a great gift they shared with us!  It was a super relaxed atmosphere, but we got to dress up a little for the dinner on Saturday night which was really nice.
5 - I am thankful for laughter.  Like I mentioned in the above post, there was a comedian that performed for an hour on Saturday night.  I loved his clean humor.  My husband and I laughed so hard and I was near tears a couple of times because I laughed so hard!  Here's an older clip of him - Scott Wood.

6 - I am thankful for rain!  I am from Washington state and must admit that I pretty much took the rain for granted.  Now when it rains - here in Southern California - you take notice!  Especially if there's a cool lightning and thunder storm like there was tonight.  My kids really loved it.  We told Marco that God was taking pictures of us and that was what all the flashes were for.  He believed us at first! haha  =)

7 - I am thankful for facebook and other social networks that help me stay in touch with my friends and family far away.  I think it's super cool that my brother and sister can go out to eat with the family and post pics for me to see it all right away.  They live clear out in Michigan.  I miss them so much! This way, I can at least feel like I "see" them on a regular basis.
This was one of the pictures Esther posted from their dinner last night. It was so cool to see it so fast!  I sure do miss these amazing people!!
Today I am thankful for the roof over my head.  We are currently renting - but I love my home and I'm so thankful for a place that is warm and safe that my kids can come home to.  We will be having friends visiting with us this week and they are in transition of a move and I'm glad that I can open my home to them and offer them some comfort.  I will also be having some very special guests visiting next Wednesday to share an early Thanksgiving with us.  I am glad that I can open my home and my kitchen to show them that I love them and that I am grateful for them!  Thank you Lord for always providing the best for my family and me!

Reverb 10|Day 7|Community

Where have you discovered community, online or otherwise, in 2010? What community would you like to join, create or more deeply connect with in 2011?
(Author: Cali Harris)
____________________________________________________

Definition of COMMUNITY (from Merriam-Webster's Dictionary)
: a unified body of individuals: as
a : the people with common interests living in a particular area; broadly : the area itself
b : an interacting population of various kinds of individuals (as species) in a common location
c : a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society.

There are a few places where I have felt a true sense of community. I looked up the definition of community because I wanted to see exactly how it was worded.
Obviously the key word to define community would be common. I thought about some of the places that I considered to be my community and I agreed that it was because we shared a common interest, goal, belief, or genes...
I also thought about places or groups that I once considered my community and I think I finally realized why it just never was for me. You see, outwardly, I thought we had something in common. Outwardly, I thought we held the same goals, beliefs or values - but I was wrong.
The first place that I would consider to be my community would be my church congregation. I am not talking about the building or the organization, I am talking about the people. They are, essentially, my family. We share common beliefs, interests, goals, and values.
Another place I have felt a very strong sense of community is here...out in the world wide web. I know that may seem strange to some, but chances are if you are taking the time to read my blog, you will also understand why I have found a community here - for me. I belong to two Yahoo art groups where I've really grown to appreciate the community. I think it's because I do feel validated and noticed there. Not in a "flashy, hey look at me" kind of way, but in a way where others are commenting on my articles or artwork. Where they are sending me an encouraging word every now and again, and where I can do the same for them.
I once spent quite a bit of time on a scrapbooking message board. I joined because I felt like I could be inspired there. I don't know what it was exactly, but I just never felt like I could fit in with that group of women. I did make a few friends there and keep up with them outside of the board, but I lost interest in the site and felt like it was more of a toxic environment with a lot of back-biting and jr. high competition-like attitudes. That was definitely not for me.
I enjoy my facebook community. I keep up with my far away family and friends there. I am thankful, however, that I've been limiting myself on it and that I've decided to be more focused on my blog and art once again.
For 2011, I want to have more interaction with the fabulous authors of the blogs that I faithfully read, I want to become more vocal and assertive on my own blog and create a place where people can come and feel like they can find a safe community to be open and real with me. A place where we can deeply connect. How about you?

Reverb10|Day2|Writing

December 2 - Writing. What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it?(Author: Leo Babauta)

I facebook every day. A few times a day. It has really gotten in the way of my writing and especially my blogging. I used to head straight to my blog to post my most recent pictures or funny thing I heard or genius thought that would come to me... Now? Now I post my pictures on facebook or update my status to share what's currently going on in my life. There's nothing wrong with having a facebook - as a matter of fact - I love it. It's just that I was wondering why I hadn't felt the need to blog, even though the desire to blog was there. Does that make sense? Well, I figured out that it was because I had already shared it on my facebook. No need to go repeating myself right? lol
Well, I know that I need my facebook to keep in touch with my loved ones near and far, but I also NEED to blog. I need to journal. I need to write again. I used to fill up my notebooks, moleskine journals and more with little thoughts, short stories, amusing ramblings, and more. I need to get back to that. I will. I will write about my journey...will you join me?
