Simple Woman's Daybook :: Week 8

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...It is simply beautiful - stunning really. They say it's supposed to be in the 80's, but it doesn't really feel that warm 'cause of the heavy winds.

I am thinking...about really re-organizing my craft studio.  I have a small space to work with and I want it to be pleasing to the eye because it's an open room at the front of the house, but I also need things accessible enough that I remember they're there for me to use them.

I am thankful...for friends that ask you if you are okay and even if you say you are - they know when you really aren't and say, "I know you are not.  Let's talk."

In the kitchen...I made some amazing sirloin pork roast, rice and broccoli with cheese for dinner last night for the band and family.  It was a hit!  Hardly anything left over.

I am wearing...denim capris, flowy, easy-breezy tan and orange floral blouse and tan Roxy canvas loafers.  Comfy - yet a little dressier than just a t-shirt or jersey.

I am creating...a banner for a special little girl. Her mom asked that it have her name and a Princess theme.  It's got lots of pink! haha!

I am going...out for Pho with my two oldest daughters. Trying to be spontaneous.  Hannah had a craving and now the three of us are getting ready to go.  I don't mind spontaneity, as long as it's carefully planned. ;)

I am wondering...how our new service schedule will be for church.  We are trying a new set up and I will be teaching the boys/girls high school Sunday School class.  I am looking forward to teaching the kids again!

I am reading..."One Thousand Gifts" by Ann Voskamp I just love it so much.  I have read bits of it here and there and was so glad to finally get my own copy.  You really need to check it out if you haven't yet.

I am hoping...that my upcoming dental appointment is positive. I do not have dental insurance, but I am in dire need of dental attention.

I am looking forward to...seeing Naomi in her new glasses.  They were ordered and should be here in about a week or so.  She really needed them and we finally got them ordered.

I am learning...still... that I can not fix anybody else's problems.  I can only be there for them, pray for them, and listen to them.  I just wish I could make it all better somehow. =(

Around the house...there are piles of clean laundry that is folded, but not put away.  Most of it belongs to the two youngers because I have to go through their dressers and take out anything that is too small to make room for everything else.  Ugh. I dread that task.

I am pondering...new ideas for our Youth Group and our Sunday School program as well as the nursery ministry.  I believe that the children and teens really need direction, nurturing, and balance in their lives.  Hopefully we can help to offer some of that our church for the families.

A favorite quote for today...

One of my favorite things...is waking up in a warm, cozy bed in a chilly room.  =)

A few plans for the rest of the week:  We had attended a birthday party today.   It was really nice. The theme was "Tangled" and Rapunzel was even there to play games, paint faces and more.  Then tomorrow we are starting our Sunday School program back up and I am teaching the high school class.  On Monday, I am finally going to the dentist to see what all needs to be done to fix my teeth.  I am scared out of my mind and I know that they aren't even doing anything on them that day. lol.  That's bad isn't it?

A peek into my day...
At first, Marco didn't want any part of the "Rapunzel" party.  Good thing Rapunzel is a smart princess and brought some cool stuff for the boys too.  She even painted this cool spider for him on his face.  This is one happy boy!

Simple Woman's Daybook :: Week 7

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...it's a chilly February morning here in Southern California.  It's probably only going to get up to about 64* today and that's fine with me. That's our "winter". lol We have been getting little bits of very needed rain here and there and I like that too.

I am thinking...that this is going to be a great 4 day weekend!  I love it when my kids have a day off from school.  We probably won't do anything big - I just like being together.  =)

I am thankful...that perseverance and faithfulness pays off.  I'm not going to lie, my faith has had it's weak moments, but I am glad that I've learned to push through!  It's so worth it!

In the kitchen...we will be having tilapia, asparagus and wild rice for dinner. Yum!

I am wearing...a nightgown that I haven't worn in a while.  It's long and white and has smocking at the top.  When my little guy came to give me a kiss good night, he looked at it and said, "Mom, this is for a wedding day!" haha.  He cracks me up.  I guess it looked "fancy" compared to my other pajamas. By the way, I am typing from the warmth of my bed right now.  The kids all got ready and are off to school, but it was so chilly that I stayed in my bed for my Bible Study and regular "check ins" on line.

I am creating...some new items that I'd like to add to my etsy shop.  I continue to make my mailboxes and jumbo clip bookmarks - those are my most popular items, but I would like to try some items that I've sold well in the past and I've kind of forgotten about them.  Time to "DO" some things that I've got on my OLW list.  Also, I'm creating a Princess Name Banner for someone.  Those are always fun!

I am going...to be doing laundry forever. haha. I usually pride myself in staying on top of the laundry, but we got busy and ran out of detergent and I just let it go...  Now, it's out of control!!  Well, you know what the Bible says... Pride goeth before destruction... LOL (Proverbs 16:18)

I am wondering...why I've been so tired lately.  At first, I thought I might be getting sick, but now I feel like it's not that.  It doesn't matter what time I go to bed or wake up, I just feel like I'm dragging.  I still do all I need to do, but there's a constant feeling in the back of my mind that I want to just go back to bed. *sigh*

I am reading...my Bible (thoroughly enjoying the Ephesians Bible study), the first book in The Hunger Games (finally trying to get started on those) and lots of blogs.  I am trying to purge through my lists in my Google Reader so that I don't miss the blogs that I actually care about.  My tastes and interests have changed some, so I need to re-evaluate...

I am hoping...I get my "to do" list tackled today.  Like I said, I've been dragging.  I think I'll feel better once things are back in order around here.  I rest better when I know that things are in their place.  That may be the problem!

I am looking forward to...seeing my grandmother and aunt soon.  They live several hours away and I don't get to see them that often.  The kids have spring break coming up and we are planning on driving up there to see them.  It's really cool 'cause we also get to visit San Francisco while we are up there!

I am learning...that I am truly a home-body.  I don't mind going out and really need it sometimes, but there is nothing like being home - especially with family. =)

Around the house...there is much to be done! Oh, my...  The two little ones' bedroom is simply out.of.control.  I am catching up with laundry and I also feel like I just need to "deep clean" everything.  We've had lots of get-togethers, company and activities here at the house and lots of regular chores have just been put on hold.

I am pondering...the importance of staying true to my beliefs.  I like having an optimistic outlook on life.  I get excited when there is something new that I learn (or can learn) that will improve my life or the lives of my loved ones in some way.  I like to believe in people and causes and I usually believe DEEPLY.  I can get totally wrapped up in something, but I've realized that I have to be careful.  I get so caught up in the excitement or new thing that I actually waver from my true self.  I've got to guard my heart and the hearts of my family.  That's most important.

A favorite quote for today... this is a long quote...but I can't stop thinking about it.  This is what ministering to others is all about.  I am in the ministry.  I love it.  Sometimes it hurts, sometimes it's frustrating and sometimes you just want to give up...but guess what?  It's worth it all.  I hope I never complain or whine about anything ever again.

One of my favorite things...is the GRACE line of body products and perfumes by Philosophy.  My husband just got a gift set of Amazing Grace for me.  It smells soooo good.  The whole line is very clean, fresh and subtle.  I have to laugh though, because I have a dear friend that I told about this line.  I thought it might be something she'd like.  I even thought she might say, "Oh, yes, I already use that..." or something like that.  Instead, she thought I was joking. haha. She said she had a bottle of Blessed Assurance or she's got to get a dab of the Old Rugged Cross.  haha.  Comedians. ;)

A few plans for the rest of the week:  Well, we have a four day weekend for Presidents' Day so that's nice.  This Saturday is a double baby shower for Stefani and her cousin.  They are both due within about a week of each other. Sunday of course is church and that's always something I look forward to doing...

A peek into my day...
I surprised my family with a Valentine's Day breakfast party.  I decorated the table,  had little goodies for them and made pink heart pancakes and bacon.  It was great to send them off to school with big smiles.  I told them that dad and I wanted them to know that they were loved more than anything, but that our Savior loved them even more than we ever could. =)

Simple Woman's Daybook :: Week 6

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...it is cloudy and gray. I love it. I got up and cracked the window open in hopes that I'll catch the smell of rain...so far I am feeling a cool breeze, but I don't smell it.

I am thinking...that the weekend is going to sneak up on me and our Valentine Banquet will be here before I know it and I am not ready!!  *insert panicky voice*

I am thankful...that I can be home with my boy.  He will start school next year and I can work part time if I need to, but right now, I'm glad that I get to experience all these special moments with him.

In the kitchen...I've got a whole chicken thawing so that we can enjoy a Roasted Chicken dinner. One of our favorites. Yum.

I am wearing...jeans and a black t-shirt. Socks that are so ugly by my feet are chilly.

I am creating...centerpieces for our Valentine Banquet.  Yes, I am using my Pinterest ideas! =)  What's the point of pinning if you're not going to try the things you pin?  That would be a waste of time!

I am going...to try to get back to eating right.  For me, that means cutting out sugar, processed foods, white flours, pastas...  I need to eat clean and eat fresh.

I am wondering...what the month of February will hold for my family and I.  January was a pretty hard month.  From day one all the way to day thirty-one.  *sigh*

I am reading...Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs still. I am finally into it!!  Wow, it's nothing like I thought it would be.  Very interesting so far.

I am hoping...that it rains hard.  Did I mention that I love the rain? haha. I do. =)

I am looking forward to...our Valentine's Banquet.  It won't be for "couples" only - so that should be fun for everyone.

I am learning...that we can not and should not assume.

Around the house...there are red hearts, pink and white birds, and hints of Valentine's in the air.

I am pondering...many lessons that I've learned since this new year started.  I want to be smart and I need to be realistic.  I am usually an optimist and I think that's how I made.  However, I am struggling with that just a little bit.  I guess I need to continue to remind myself that my source of JOY should come from Christ...NOT my CIRCUMSTANCES.  Circumstances change.  PEOPLE change.  I even change.  Christ does not change and He is my joy.

A favorite quote for today...in honor of Charles Dickens 200th birthday anniversary this week:
"There is a wisdom of the head, and a wisdom of the heart."

"Whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried with all my heart to do it well; whatever I have devoted myself to, I have devoted myself completely; in great aims and in small I have always thoroughly been in earnest."

"No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else."

One of my favorite things...is when I have a quiet chunk of time to just read.  With 4 kids, a husband, and all that goes with it - you just don't get much time to do something as simple as reading for fun.  And sometimes you get that chance, but you're too tired to focus on the lines. haha.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  Hannah's got her last game tomorrow and it's tournament.  I am also hoping to go to a play that my friend's daughter is performing.  Thursday is Bible Study/Prayer Meeting, Friday is Band Practice, and Sunday is church and then the banquet in the evening.  Yup. It's going to be busy - but that's what keeps me out of trouble. ;)  Hope your week is going well!!

A peek into my day...
These were the little favors I made for our Bible study.  They are little colored paper clip bookmarks with bits of grosgrain ribbon tied to them.  They are clipped to a verse clip-art from Ephesians that can also serve as a bookmark as well.

Simple Woman's Daybook :: Week 5

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...it is dark, but it was a beautiful Southern California day.  It may be the first day of February, but the temperature was about 84*F.  There was a slight breeze to keep it cool enough to enjoy, but warm enough for flip flops and a t-shirt.

I am thinking...that some people will never ever be happy with the life they have.  They will spend all of their days looking for the new thing, the better thing, the easier thing...  Oh, don't get me wrong.  There's nothing wrong with trying to better yourself or your situation, but I am talking about people that just are not ever satisfied.  No contentment... I just have a problem with that.

I am thankful...for facebook.  Yep.  I love that my sisters and my brother are just a click away.  I love that I can see pictures of my friends and family on a regular basis.  It helps the distance not seem so far.

In the kitchen...the table has been cleared, the dishes are being put in the dishwasher and ice cream is being enjoyed by the kids.

I am wearing...my pajamas.  I am totally comfy and settled in for the night.

I am creating...lesson plans for my four year old.  I am thankful for pinterest and all of it's ideas for homeschooling.

I am going...to bed before midnight tonight...I hope...maybe... LOL

I am wondering...what the month of February will hold for my family and I.  January was a pretty hard month.  From day one all the way to day thirty-one.  *sigh*

I am reading...Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs still.  I really haven't even been able to get into yet.  I keep reading the same pages over again and again.  Maybe I'll block out some time tomorrow JUST for reading.  No interruptions - we shall see.

I am hoping...to get some things made for our Valentine's Banquet.  We have a theme! Yay! That's the main thing.  Now, with some Pinterest ideas, I've got to get to work!

I am looking forward to...Sunday!  I love Sundays 'cause I get to be with my church family as well as my immediate family.  I love working together with others that love God and are looking to spread the same message of Amazing Grace as I am.

I am learning...that there's always more to learn.  Every day, all the time.

Around the house...there are red hearts, pink and white birds, and hints of Valentine's in the air.

I am pondering...the many things that I have in my closet that need to go on Craigslist or Ebay.  I'd like to sell my Sizzix alphabets, Cuttlebug alphabets and even my Cricut Create.  Hopefully I can sell those items and have enough to get a full size Cricut so that I can do some other projects that I've been wanting to create!

A favorite quote for today..."I believe that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but, we are responsible for who we become."

One of my favorite things...is ice cream.  My favorite right now is Cherry Chocolate Chip from Rite Aid.  I love it.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  Friday is a water polo game as well as band practice, Saturday will be spent working on Banquet stuff and Sunday is church and then relax on Sunday night!

A peek into my day...
This is my silly little guy. He did a good job behaving at the game today.  It's hard for him to sit still through two whole games. LOL  He did really well and didn't go near the edge of the pool once. Eeks!!

Simple Woman's Daybook :: Week 4

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...it is rainy and cold.  I don't mind it at all except that my daughter has a water polo game this afternoon.  Yes, it's outdoors.  No, they do not cancel it for a little rain. *sigh*  Marco will be going without me today 'cause I'm home with a sick little boy (asthma/cold) and Taryn who woke up with a stiff neck.  It was so bad that she could not force herself to go to school.  She had perfect attendance up until today. =(

I am thinking...about all that I need to do, but don't have the energy to do.  Marco and I were up pretty much all night taking turns being with our little guy.  I hate to see him struggle or be in pain.  =(  Now I feel all zombied out.  Ick.

I am thankful...for each new day.  I am thankful for coffee and warm blankets.  I am thankful for fever reducer and modern medicines.  I am thankful for internet that keeps me updated on friends and family near and far.  I am thankful for a lot of little things today.

In the kitchen...I'm in the process of making some soup for lunch right now.  Tonight we will be having a comforting dinner of Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots and salad.  Okay, might as well throw some flaky buttermilk biscuits in for good measure.

I am wearing...pink and white yoga pants and a gray t-shirt with mis-matched socks.  *sigh* Why must the girls take my socks? They have their own...  *shrug*

I am creating...a menu for the week and a "To Do" list that's a mile long.  I don't care what anyone says - I love making lists.  I love the satisfaction of crossing things off at the end of the day/week/month, etc and knowing that I accomplished something.  I am not against dreaming and setting goals, but they'll never become reality if you never tackle your list.

I am going...to stay in the house all day.  I will not be stepping a toe nail out of this house.  There's no place like home, there's no place like home...

I am wondering...what I'd like to create for our upcoming Valentine's banquet.  My husband has the place reserved and the date set, but no theme yet.  I like to know these things in advance... he likes to keep things exciting and mysterious. haha!

I am reading...Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs I am just starting it actually and am looking forward to seeing what this curious book is all about.

I am hoping...that my boy gets better real quick, that Taryn's neck will feel better and that Hannah wins her game.  =)

I am looking forward to...some down time with my family.  It's my favorite thing.  Being home, with my favorite people, relaxing and being together.  Yeah, it's the best.

I am learning...that there are people that I can love, but I have to love them from far away.

Around the house...there is much to do.  Mostly cleaning and laundry, but what's new?

I am pondering...over the happenings of this last weekend.  Our friend Michael's body was finally laid to rest.  The service led by his youth pastor was beautifully done and my husband shared at the grave side service.  Michael certainly touched many lives.  The church was completely full.  We will not forget him!

A favorite quote for today...

One of my favorite things...is rain.  I love the smell of it, the sound of it, sight of it...  I love that it reminds me of Washington and my honeymoon in Hawaii... I love rain.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  I plan to catch up on all that a busy mom, wife and ministry worker has to do.  I plan to do things for myself as well (lest you think that I'm unbalanced lol) like my daily work outs, create in the art studio, read, etc.

A peek into my day...
They gave out these bracelets at Michael's funeral.  They say his name and dates of his birth and passing and they also say "Always in our hearts."  The two youngest even got some smaller ones so that they could wear them to remember Michael.  We don't need bracelets to do that, but I think it's a sweet reminder.

Simple Woman's Daybook :: Week 3

FOR TODAY...

Outside my window...it is dark and cold.  I am doing my daybook at night and the thought of it kind of makes me laugh.  I guess I will get to reflect on how my day was instead of how it would have been. haha.  I had a fun-filled, busy day - but I did not want to skip my daybook!

I am thinking...about all four of my siblings.  They all live very far away from me and they are all in a different stage of life.  I pray for them daily and they are constantly on my heart.

I am thankful...for days like today where I can get away with my family and just DO nothing in particular.  The kids had the day off from school and we took our time getting ready, then went up to Lake Arrowhead village to walk around and look at the beautiful sights.  We ended the day with a hot bowl of Pho. Perfect.

In the kitchen...there is a sink full of dirty dishes.  For some reason the washer did not get started with the last load, so when we were going to empty it out - they were still dirty! Ugh. Oh, well. They will just have to wait until tomorrow!

I am wearing...my pajamas right now because I am tucked in my bed. lol  I am going to finish up this post and then read a bit in my kindle.  Hannah has early morning water polo practice, so I'll be getting up bright and early to see that she is up and going.

I am creating...a bucket list and some other goals that I have - long and short term.  It's hard for me to do this because I feel like I can only write down things that are "realistic" to me.  It's like I can't just dream about something and hope that it happens one day.  Well, that's got to go! Creating a bucket list/dream board/wish list... ALL of it!

I am going...to keep exercising so that I can get myself together.  I've got a lot of weight to lose and a lot of endurance to build up.  I want to feel good again.  I can not quit...no matter what!

I am wondering...if I am going to find the specialty paper that I have been in search for to complete my etsy order.  I called a really big scrapbook store looking for it and heard the dreaded words, "Those have been discontinued."  Ugh!! Why do they do that??  *sigh*

I am reading...the book of Ephesians for my Bible Study and also a book called "Taffy".  I have no idea if it's good or not.  It was a freebie on the Kindle.  Just a fiction book of some sort, so we shall see...

I am hoping...that everything goes well for the upcoming funeral for Michael this Saturday. I was asked to sing, but I can't even imagine being able to hold it together for the service let alone sing a song.  I really wanted to...but I don't want to jeopardize the service in any way.

I am looking forward to...getting back to a schedule with my little guy and his school work. It was put on hold and we really need to get back to it!!

I am learning...that I need to be more assertive with my feelings.  I think I often put my feelings aside so that others can be happy or so that I don't make them feel uncomfortable. I need to learn how to be honest with them and let them know that what they are doing or how they are acting towards me is unacceptable.   I want to be kind, but I don't want to be taken for granted either.  I have feelings too. =(

Around the house...things are coming along.  It is clean and orderly, but there is still catching up to do.  Housework and laundry wait for no man!

I am pondering... over our menu for the week.  I still have not gotten myself back in the habit of doing that!  I need to do it before I go grocery shopping - don't you think?

A favorite quote for today...

“I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.”  ~John Burroughs

One of my favorite things...is ice water.  Simple, refreshing, clear, cold ice water.

A few plans for the rest of the week: I need to complete some ETSY orders, grocery shopping, stay on track with my exercise, band practice, water polo games, a car wash at church and dear Michael's funeral.  It's going to be a long week.

A peek into my day...
This is me and my hubby Marco. We took the kids to Lake Arrowhead.  It's tradition to stop and get amazing  specialty caramel apples every time we go there.  Yum!!
Here are the kids enjoying their picks.  We brought our friend Stephanie along today.  She got one too of course!

Simple Woman's Daybook :: Week 2

FOR TODAY...

Outside my window...the world is going on with it's regular routine. I can hear cars and buses.  The air is crisp with a bit of chill, yet the sun is shining with all it's might.  It seems that the outside world is unaware of the hurt that is going on in the inside world.

I am thinking...about all that has happened this weekend.  I know I will not forget the events that took place.  I am thinking about families that are grieving over a life that ended too early.  I am thinking about how hard it must be for them to have moments of silence when the tragedy seems to be constantly screaming in their heads.

I am thankful...for Heaven.  Thankful for peace that passes understanding.  Thankful for healing.

In the kitchen...I've got a menu planned and the groceries have been purchased, but because of all that's going on - I am not quite sure yet what is getting served when.  I've got to figure out our schedule.  Tonight will most likely be Tilapia and salad with rice.

I am wearing...my pajamas still.  I don't even feel guilty about it 'cause for starters, I've had a rough weekend and secondly, I know that once I am up and dressed I will not be taking a break until my head can hit the pillow again late tonight.

I am creating...more items for my etsy shop as well as some things for a Thing 1 and Thing 2 themed twin baby shower! (still)

I am going...to have to really work on staying focused this week.  I have a lot going on and I have a lot of people to whom I need to minister.  I am praying for grace, wisdom and strength.

I am wondering...how I can best help those that are hurting.  I think there's really nothing that I can actually "do", but I hope and pray that it will help.

I am reading...nothing but my Bible at the moment.  Everything else has been put aside until I have a leisure moment to grab again.

I am hoping...that I can find the items that I need for one of my etsy orders.  It seems that one of the items I often use has been discontinued. =/

I am looking forward to...a day and place where there is no heartache or pain.

I am learning...more and more that life is fragile.  Each person in our life is a gift to us.  We need to appreciate that gift while we have it.

Around the house...let's just say that it has not had much attention, but it has been lived in much.  It's scary how much damage six people can do in just a few days.  I know it wouldn't be so bad if we each took care of our own responsibilities - but that talk is for another post. *sigh*

I am pondering...on so many things, but I can not get out of my head the events of this weekend.  A dear friend - a young man - went for a walk on Saturday evening and several hours had passed and he had not returned.
Due to the fact that he is a heart transplant recipient, the police were put on high alert even though he was 22 and gone for only 5 hours.
He received the heart transplant when he was a young boy and was fine until about two years ago when he had very serious complications and almost died.  He recovered from that and seemed even better than ever.
Several people went looking for him in the neighborhood, my husband and I included.  As we were about to conclude our search, I came around the corner and found him. =(  My poor friend was laid out on the sidewalk, hidden by some construction tarps that prevented him from being seen from the street.  He had been there for several hours.
My heart is breaking as I write this.  I almost didn't, but I know that I have to.  I will be writing and thinking and praying about this for a long time.  I don't think I will be sharing it ever again - but I have to just say it.
I was scared, I was sad, I was angry... I was so many things.  I am hurting for his family, his girlfriend, his friends - everything just hurts.
Yes, I asked WHY???  Yes, I screamed out to the Lord.  But just as a person who hates to see their child hurt, I know that my Jesus has me in His mighty arms.  I know that there will always be sin and hurt and death and sickness on this earth, but there is also good.  There is also health and happiness, life and goodness.
It just feels like right now, it's all off balance.  Jesus whispers in my ear that things will be better, that the pain will heal and that life will go on.
I know that Michael is in a better place and that he is not hurting and in that I can take comfort.  I am praying for that PEACE that passes all understanding for all who was touched by his young, but full life.

A favorite quote for today...
"For some moments in life there are no words." ~David Seltzer, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Matthew 11:28~"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

One of my favorite things...is knowing that each day is new.  A fresh page with no mistakes in it...

A few plans for the rest of the week: Wow.  I have so much going on.  My oldest daughter Hannah has water polo games throughout the week and our family always goes to support her if we can, I have several (so thankful) Etsy orders to complete and ship, I have a baby shower for a dear friend who is expecting twins - this SATURDAY at my house!! and we also have family and friends that need to be ministered to as we deal with the death of our dear friend Michael.  =(

A peek into my day...
This is a picture of Michael with his girlfriend Mandy.  Michael went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 7, 2012.  You may be gone Michael, but you will never be forgotten.  You will always live in our hearts.

Diary of 5 :: Week 1

I am seeing... a big empty spot in the living room where the Christmas tree was, but will soon be filled with a big, ugly, needed black treadmill.

I am hearing...the morning news, the soft breathing of my little guy that came to my bed early this a.m. and fell back asleep and the occasional cough of my 6 year old.  I hope she's not getting sick. =(

I am smelling...a mix of perfume, lotion and hair product lingering in the air after my high schooler and junior higher got ready for school.

I tasted...a bit of melancholy this morning as I pondered over special people in my life that are going through some very trying times.  I know that I all I can do is be here for them, listen, pray... It just leaves me with a heavy feeling in my heart.

I am feeling...the warmth of my little Marco next to me.  I have always said that he is my rough and tumble, but at the same time, he is my most affectionate child.  People tell me that's because he's a boy and that's how they are with they're mommy.   Whatever it is, I will take it.  Squish!!

This is a picture of me FEELING the cool sand in my toes, warm breeze on my face,  SMELLING the  vast ocean in front of me, the seaweed piling up next to me thanks to my two youngest, the corn dogs, popcorn and other boardwalk type foods being cooked not too far behind me.  I was SEEING my children completely happy as they played in the sand, a dad trying to teach his young son how to surf, seagulls as they scavenged for food, the heavy fog that was threatening to settle over us, HEARING the waves crash upon the shore, shrieks from my children that got too close to the waves and got completely drenched by the water and I was TASTING the good life, on New Year's Eve in Southern California, blessed by God with a loving husband and beautiful, healthy children.  I don't want to miss a single thing.
A diary of 5 was created to give your senses a gentle work-out in helping you to become more aware of those little moments around you.  To join in with others that are participating, you can click on the picture link below.

Simple Woman's Daybook :: Week 1

FOR TODAY...

Outside my window... it is a cool 47*.  I have my window opened just slightly and I can feel the cool breeze on my face.  Sadly, my skin feels super tight and dry because the air has been so dry.  We've also been turning the heater on at night once in a while and that hasn't helped my skin.  I need to get some really good moisturizer!

I am thinking...about the new year that we've just started.  I am thinking about all of the possibilities that it holds.  I always hope to make the new year better than the last - but it won't happen on it's own.  I need to plan and set goals for myself and my family!

I am thankful...that God always keeps His promises.  I am thankful that I am a follower of Christ and I am not ashamed to admit it.

In the kitchen...I need to go grocery shopping SO badly.  Hoping to stick with my plan to eat better...  I can if I plan and purchase with purpose!

I am wearing...a pair of jeans that would probably get Clinton and Stacy all up in a bunch with a gray-ish t-shirt.  Not fashion forward today, but I'm clean and presentable. haha!

I am creating...more items for my etsy shop as well as some things for a Thing 1 and Thing 2 themed twin baby shower!

I am going...to finally put away all of our Christmas decorations - it's usually put away on the first, but we have been super busy away from the house.  I also plan on finally throwing out any outdated or damaged decorations that I keep throwing back in the bin year after year.  I do that and am disappointed every year when I open the bin at Christmas only to find a bunch of "junk".

I am wondering...why  some people are okay with using terms like: fate, karma, light, guidance, affirmation...but they get thrown off a little when Christians choose to use terms like: God's will, blessings, the LIGHT, Holy Spirit, answered prayer, etc...  Why?  I try to be very accepting of others and their beliefs - not meaning that I agree with them, but I believe we all are free to believe what we want.  I don't get offended or turned off when my yoga friend talks about centering herself or karma... I may not agree or understand, but she is my friend and I am interested in her.  I think the key may be to not have a "Know it all" attitude or a condescending tone.  I wonder...

I am reading...The Secret Holocaust Diaries by Nonna Bannister.  I received it as a free book for my Kindle Fire (which I just love) and have just started it.  I think it's still free for Kindle users. I'll let you know if it's worth a read!

I am hoping...to get the grocery shopping and house cleaning done today!  I better get busy!!

I am looking forward to...sending some late Christmas gifts (practically a tradition for me) to my far away family.  I can't wait to hear about how they liked (hopefully) what I chose for them.

I am learning...that you have to be true to yourself, before you can be true to anyone else.  I am learning that there is always a consequence for sin, whether it is great or small.  God is just and balanced.  You can't continue to live a lie and expect truth and blessings in your life.  I have seen it in my own life.  It's a learning process, that is for sure.

Around the house...we've already discussed that...but it's a mess.  The Christmas stuff will be put away and the treadmill will be brought in from the garage.  Yes, as big and ugly as it is.  No excuses. haha!

I am pondering...my word for 2012.  DO.  It actually gets me excited as I think of all I need to DO, all I should DO, all I can DO and all I want to DO.  Of course, I'll be sharing those things here with you!

A favorite quote for today...
I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and to incur my own abhorrence. ~Frederick Douglass

One of my favorite things...is opening my email and seeing that I have an etsy order.  It's been happening more and more often. =)  I've got lots of ideas for this year!!

A few plans for the rest of the week: My main goal this week is to schedule and organize.  I work best with a goal and a plan.  I have plenty of tools to use, but I prefer a day planner (week at a glance) and a good pen.  Black ink, medium point... you get the idea. ;)  Keepin' it old school!   Some things I need to plan: Menu, Blogging schedule, Ministry schedule, 2012 reading list, Fitness plan, De-cluttering/Simplifying plan...

A peek into my day...
We went to the beach on New Year's Eve day.  We had fun just playing and enjoying each other's company.  Marco and the two older girls even rented bikes and went on a long bike ride.  Perfect prelude to our new year!

FOR TODAY...

Outside my window...It has been raining and it is finally cold! The kind of cold where it stings just a little.  However, I am thankful that I can stay cozy in my home, but can get a blast of cold "winter" air if I want just by opening the door. =)
I am thinking...about the wonderful time I had with the ladies from my church last night. I was surely blessed by the fellowship.  I am also thinking about my friend Erin and her family.  Praying that they will be blessed beyond measure.
I am thankful...for Emmanuel.  God is with us.  Nothing else matters.  In good times or bad - Emmanuel.
From the learning rooms...hoping to do some fun Christmas themed activities that I saw on Pinterest.
In the kitchen...Lots of yummy leftovers put aside from the potluck last night.  I may not even have to cook dinner tonight.  ;)
I am wearing...my comfiest, most favorite pajamas.  They are gray with white polka dots.  Thee best material.  I declared it to be a pajama day today. I've NEVER done that before. haha.
I am creating...some Joy Boxes to fill some orders on Etsy as well as several Jumbo Paper Clip Bookmarks for Etsy orders.
I am going...nowhere today.  Absolutely nowhere.  =)
I am wondering...what my kids want for Christmas.  Believe it or not, they really haven't talked about it much.
I am reading..."Choosing to SEE" by Mary Beth Chapman on my new Kindle Fire.  I was so touched when my husband and children gave it to me for my birthday.  They all chipped in (even using their birthday money) to get mama something super nice.  Of course, I cried.  I haven't purchased any books or music yet.  I borrowed this one from a Lender Library through Kindle. =)
I am hoping...for something very important and unspoken.
I am looking forward to...seeing my sister Tabitha and her family.  They will be here for almost a week.  Christmas will be extra-special for sure!
I am hearing...the sounds of "Cars 2" in the background.  My husband got it from the Red Box for the kids last night.  They hid out upstairs while I had my ladies' event.  Of course, my little guy has to watch it AGAIN. haha
Around the house...Everything is pretty much in order.  I had my Ladies' Ministry Christmas fellowship here last night.  There are some dishes from the potluck in the sink, but everything else got cleaned up right after.  My Marco even helped put away the tables and mopped!!
I am pondering...what kind of hand-made gifts I can make for friends this year.  Finances are beyond tight, but that shouldn't stop us from doing what we can for others, right?
One of my favorite things...is when one of my children come up to me and give me a hug or says "I love you" just out of the blue - expecting nothing in return. haha.  True love at its finest.
A few plans for the rest of the week: Lots of creating in the craft room, our mid-week service, my husband's birthday at the end of the week, Hannah's Water Polo game and anything else that comes my way. =)
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
This little girl is ME. Taken when I was about the same age as my little guy Marco.   This was taken at the PX  on base in Korea.  I was an only child at this time.  Shortly after that, we would move back to the States and my brother would be born, followed by my three sisters over the next several years.  I love and miss them all so much!
