My One Little Word for 2012...

My One Little Word from the last three years
Inspired by Ali Edwards, this is my fourth year choosing one little word as a "guiding" word for the year. I have long since given up on making new year's resolutions.  It always seemed like it was a sure way to fail.  By choosing one word that I can reflect on throughout the year as a guide word would be more realistic.  Words that I've chosen in the past are FOCUSTRUE and JOURNEY.
My word last year was JOURNEY.  I wanted to be more aware of this journey - my life.  I needed to be more aware of what was going on during the journey not just working my way to the finish line as fast and as best as I could.  I didn't want my life to be about performance or expectations.  Well, 2011 certainly was quite the journey.  There were plenty of ups and downs along with many learning opportunities.  There was heartache as well as joy and happiness.  Overall, I can say that God continued to bless and I ended the year better than I started it.
This year my chosen word is indeed a little word.  Just two letters.  DO.  That is my word.  As I looked back on my words from past years, it seemed like DO was naturally the next thing to choose.  I needed to FOCUS on the things that were most important, I needed to be TRUE, authentic, and to surround myself with authenticity, I needed to be present on the JOURNEY, to experience, learn from, enjoy and appreciate all I encountered.  Now, it's time to DO.  Time to get down to business.  There are many areas in which I need to DO.  Here are some that come to mind:
Physically
Spiritually
Mentally
Creatively
Financially
Responsibly
Those may not make sense to you right now, but in the next few days I will lay out my plan.  For now, I just know that I have plenty I want to DO - However, this is nothing new.  I am very active, always busy, always doing...but in the DOing, this year I want to get many things DOne.  This is where 2012 is going to be different than all other years past.
Won't you join me in choosing a word to help guide your year?  Share your word in the comments or leave a link to your blog (of course you don't have to be a blogger to participate).
Here's my ATC card for this year's word: DO

  4. Awesome. Mine is Conscious. I want to be conscious this year Sherry. Not just living because my body naturally will breathe on it's own, you know? I think it will produce changes in me that will help me over obstacles that I have a hard time getting around and over. I like your word and am looking forward to hearing more about it this year.

  5. mine is cleansing. A year of cleansing. I want to face those parts of me that weigh me down, and be cleansed. I want to see life without the fog and soot of unconfessed sins, or shortcomings that I just ignore because, "well that's just how I am" I want to be a clean vessel, to be more useful for Christ. I thought of weaknesses I have, that the Lord keeps bringing to my mind, "Amy, you really need to trust me on that." but I hold on to the dirty fear...and I don't go forward, I don't grow in my trust for the Lord. I want this to be a year that those things come to the forefront of my mind, and I am cleansed of mySELF!!

  8. Love your word for the year!

Funny, but our family has decided to come up with a motto for the year and we all decided it would be "Go and Do". Our family remembers we need to do things, but we don't always "Go" to do them. We based it from Phillipians 4:13.

  9. I love this word. I believe you are right, we need a word or something quiet to remind us of our path. I have not had one in a while. I think that is why I have been wandering about. Thank you for this post. I am going to really think about this tonight.

  12. Hi Sherry! I stumbled onto your blog a while back when looking into your wonderful bookmarks. I love this idea of one word for 2012. I recently posted on my blog about refleting on the past and asking God for 3 words that describe 2011 (http://stephaniewafer.blogspot.com/2012/01/three-words.html) and so I love this idea as well. I have to say my word would be INTENTIONAL. I want to be more intentional about my home, my husband, my kids, my health, reading and studying the Word, serving and growing in Him, listening to Him, ministering in obedience, the list goes on and on. Yes, INTENTIONAL is definately my word. Thanks so much, Sherry!
